When dealing with hemorrhoids, you should not sit or stand for too long. You should try to alternate between sitting and standing throughout the day. When you sit or stand for long periods of time, you are increasing the pressure on your hemorrhoids. This can cause the hemorrhoids to become worse.

To relieve some of the pain and swelling of hemorrhoid flare-ups, try alternating hot and cold treatments. This has the effect of shrinking the hemorrhoid. For best results, the ice must be put on the hemorrhoid-affected area for a minimum of ten minutes every day, followed by damp, warm heat for at least twenty minutes.

Once or twice per day, draw yourself a warm (not hot) bath and add a generous amount of colloidal oatmeal to the water. Just as oatmeal can soothe dry, itchy skin, it can also provide some relief from the itching and irritation of external hemorrhoids. Allow yourself to soak in the water for at least fifteen minutes, or longer if possible.

If you have come down with a case out hemorrhoids one of the best things you can do is apply a hydrocortisone cream or ointment to it. This will greatly reduce the amount of pain, itching, and inflammation. Hydrocortisone creams are available at nearly every pharmacy as a commercially available OTC product.

One of the easiest home treatments to aid in the healing, from the painful burning and itching of hemorrhoids, is a sitz bath. A good recipe for a sitz bath is witch hazel. Fill your tub with warm water and add at least one cup of witch hazel to your water. Sit in this warm mixture for 10-15 minutes, at least three times per day. Within three to four days, your hemorrhoids will be gone.

If you suffer from hemorrhoids, keep protein in your diet at a minimum. Protein tends to bind stool and hard stools lead to straining when going to the bathroom. That straining not only helps cause hemorrhoids, but also leads to much pain when using the toilet. Keep your stools soft by eating plenty of fruits, vegetables and fiber.

Cut back on your salt intake. Salt can make your body swell including your hemorrhoids. Reducing your salt intake may be difficult at first but will be well worth it in the end.

If you get hemorrhoids it is important to get exercise and move around throughout your day. If you are sedentary, and constantly sitting, you are putting much unneeded pressure on the veins which can become hemorrhoids. If your work is sedentary, get up often and walk around. Keep your lifestyle active to help prevent hemorrhoids!

The advice in the article above will give you what you need to manage your hemorrhoids and find relief from the painful symptoms. Make the most out of these suggestions, and work to remove hemorrhoids and the discomfort they bring from your life.
